Filipiniana Day

Wow what a great day! It started with the assembly which celebrated the uniqueness of the Philippines. Many of our students were involved in singing, dancing, dramatic play and speaking Tagalog. Parents were able to watch their child perform and participated in the activities and celebrations as well.

During the Art sessions the Grade 2 created two varieties of ‘fans’ – ‘pamaypay’ which are used in Filipino culture. They watched a traditional fan dance as inspiration to see how else fans are used in the Philippines, other than keeping you cool. The students chose various shapes for their fan and for decoration they added tissue papers in various colours. Some students even practiced some of the dance moves once they had finished. See the photos below, and I will endeavor to upload the movie of some of our young dancers.
